PHOTOGRAPHY | Building Storeys
Tonight, Steam Whistle Brewery launches "Building Storeys," a special exhibit as part of the Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival and produced in association with Heritage Toronto. This free exhibit, usually focused on TO's urban landscape, is centered around 24 images of Toronto rail and marine sites, some of which have long been closed to the public. Expect to see sites such as The Trillium Ferry, the CN Rail Yard, Queen's Wharf Lighthouse and Gibraltar Point Lighthouse, and others. Tonight's reception marks the official beginning of this special art show, which runs until the end of the month.

BOOKS & LIT | AUTHORS: Marianne Apostolides, Deni Y. Béchard, Steven Heighton
Authors at Harbourfront continues their weekly series of readings by internationally acclaimed writers this evening. Deni Y. Béchard's "Cures for Hunger" is a memoir that relates the author's coming of age and uncovering family secrets. 2011 Chalmers Arts Fellowship recipient, Marianne Apostolides, will read from her collection of essays and reflections, "Voluptuous Pleasure: The Truth About the Writing Life." Bestselling author, Steven Heighton, will share excerpts from his collection of short stories, "The Dead Are More Visible." James Grainger will host this evening's event.

MUSIC | Yann Tiersen with Felix at The Phoenix
French instrumental musician Yann Tiersen plays The Phoenix tonight. As a multi-instrumentalist, Tiersen has a distinctive sound featuring melodies that incorporate guitar and xylophone, melodica, and other somewhat esoteric instruments. When his music was used in the 2001 film "Amélie," he received international recognition and he has since collaborated with a diverse group of artists, including Elizabeth Fraser, Shannon Wright, and Jane Birkin. UK band Felix is also on tonight's bill.

FILM | The Clean Bin Project
NFB Mediatheque presents the Toronto screening of "The Clean Bin Project", an award-winning, environmentally conscious film. The film attempts to answer the nagging question as to what power a mere individual has to "save the planet." The film follows a young couple for a year as they attempt to reduce their 'footprint,' both in terms of consumer intake and waste. The film also features interviews with Chris Jordan and Captain Charles Moore.
