Radar: Fierce Light: When Spirit Meets Action, The Low Anthem and Barr Brothers, Mac Miller, L'Orchestre d'Hommes-Orchestres performs Tom Waits

FILM | Free Favourites at Four presents Fierce Light: When Spirit Meets Action
Velcrow Ripper's 2008 documentary is given a free screening this aft. This film explores the lives of different individuals who have turned to "spiritual activism" as a means of coping with different problems in their lives, or perceived global challenges. Daryl Hannah, Desmond Tutu, and other celebs and public figures are interviewed in this interesting take on the human mind and perspective.
NFB Mediatheque (150 John Street) 4PM FREE

MUSIC | The Low Anthem + Barr Brothers
The Low Anthem bring their "indie folk" sound to the Great Hall this evening. This rootsy four-piece has played many of the top US fests, and their new release "Smart Flesh" was recently featured in a two-page spread in the New York Times. The Barr Brothers, a like-minded quartet hailing (most recently) from Montreal, fronted by Andrew and Brad Barr (who were the core of the US band The Slip) will start the show.
The Great Hall (1087 Queen Street West) 8PM $17.50

MUSIC | MAC MILLER @ THE MOD CLUB
Mac Miller is "fresh" on every level. Only 19, and signed to Rostrum Records, this rapper from Pittsburgh just dropped his debut last year, and already a handful of his vids have gone 'viral' by some standards. Tonight, he arrives in TO to headline his first solo show here in town, and there's some buzz - definitely catch it if it sounds like your thing.
The Mod Club (722 College Street) 8PM $19.50

MUSIC | L'Orchestre d'Hommes-Orchestres performs Tom Waits
This show is promised to blur the boundaries that distinguish a concert from a "carnival", as this esoteric four-piece from Quebec City interpret the already unique and adventurous work of Tom Waits. All four members of L'Orchestre d'Hommes-Orchestres are multi-instrumentalists, and they will utilize over 100 objects and "invented instruments" during the course of their performance.
The Theatre Centre (100-1087 Queen Street West) 7:30PM $25
