Jim Bryson is going to sooth you and The Weakerthans are going to woo you. Celebrating the release of their new record "The Falcon Lake Incident," Sonic Boom is hosting a free show to entertain all you music monkeys. So join this group of musical mavericks in a large basement with no windows but lots of VHS and enjoy some frosty cool tunes!

FILM | Conscious Activism Documentary Series
Lord knows there is a whole lot wrong with the world we live in today, maybe more political, enviro and human rights issues then ever before, (planet earth has pretty much been sailing downhill since WWII). But unless your actively looking it can be less than easy for us living in a city as great as Toronto to really be exposed to these issues and problems. This new series of doc screenings, talks and workshops will hopefully expose more open-minded people to various chunks of the mountain of crap that our generation is going to have to shovel away. The first screening is Peter Mettler's Petropolis; a film looking at the environmental impact of Canada's tar sands. I realize that Duck Hunt just celebrated it's 25th anniversary but I think Alberta might be taking it a little too far. So if you're going to go I'd advise bringing someone who doesn't really know what's going on out there so that these types of screenings can preach a little less to the already converted.

What better way to contribute to the Canadian Caner Society than to eat great food! I don't need to tell you how devastating cancer can be and how much good the CCS does for cancer research, and those afflicted with the disease, so just check out their website and make a reso at any of the participating restaurants. BOOKS | Tao Lin at Type Books
Probably because of his apparent shameless self promotion over recent years everyone seems to have something to say about Tao Lin so I won't dwell. He's a young author starting a Canadian Tour to promote his newest book, Richard Yates which, from what bits of it I've heard is pretty funny. Richard Yates like his other works comically touches on the depression and lack of focus of our internet generation and the detachment that comes with the new quarter-life crisis. Give it a read and check him out at Type tonight. Who knows maybe he'll be on mushrooms?

Well the best weekend of the year is fast approaching and NFB is getting into the spirit of things! No they're not handing out Paul Gross masks, which would be freaky. They'll be delving into the strange and wonderful world of animated European shorts and what's great about it is this time around it's free! Everyone likes free stuff right? Abnormal, bizarre and European. Halloween is truly a strange time for all.
