Radar: Arcade Fridays One-Year Anniversary with Fake Blood, Super 8, Flying Lotus, The Project, Whatevs

MUSIC | Arcade Fridays One-Year Anniversary with Fake Blood
Arcade Fridays have been bringing the best in cutting edge DJs and live electronic music to The Mod Club for a year now. Now for their one year anniversary party, they're really busting out the big guns. They're bringing UK DJ and producer Fake Blood to Canada for what will unquestionably be an unreal night. Fake Blood is known best for his remixes of Black Ghosts and Little Boots songs as well as his own singles Mars & I Think I Like It. Meech and Nasty Nav open. It may be September, but it's not too late to get nice and sweaty.
The Mod Club, 722 College St, $18.50, 10pm

PARTY | Super 8 Dance Party
The Augusta House just got a new sound system and are anxious to show it off to everyone. Tonight they'll have DJ-VJAM spinning music from the soundtracks to all your favourite movies. Expect to hear anything from "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" by Areosmith from Armageddon to Prince's "Batdance" from Batman, obviously. No better way to kick off the long weekend!
The Augusta House, 152 Augusta House, $5, 10pm

MUSIC | Flying Lotus
To call Steven Ellison a laptop musician is a huge understatement. He's been making genre-defying electronic music with unheard of sounds for years now under the name Flying Lotus. After making waves with his Warp full-length debut Los Angeles, creating a whole new playground for countless electronic musicians to play in (and also inspiring this amazing NSFW music video by Eric Warehiem). He released his follow up Cosmogramma this summer, which he described as his "space opera." He's making his return to Toronto tonight to promote the album, and I can only imagine how amazing it will sound live.
NOTE: This show has been moved from The Pheonix to The Opera House.
The Opera House,735 Queen Street East, $20.25, 10pm

ART | The Project
Ignore it all you want, but September marks the beginning of the school year. The 2010 Image Arts year at Ryerson are holding an exhibit to showcase the talents of the incoming first-year students. There'll be photographs, film, new media and performance on display. Whether you're in school or not, drop by and check out stuff by a ton of fresh names.
IMA Gallery, 80 Spadina Ave, Free, 6-9pm

PARTY | Whatevs
Tonight 751 will be playing something a little different than you're used to. For the first Friday of every month, old school 90's gangster rap will be blasting though the speakers all night long. Is it 'gangsta' or 'gangster'? Gangster sounds a little white... Anyway, hear the likes of Mobb Deep, Salt'n'Peppa, and Naughty by Nature while enjoying (or trying to enjoy) cheap $10 pitchers. Come tear it up with a bunch of kids that were only 5 when this music was popular!
751, 751 Queen St W, Free, 10pm
