We raced to see if casually walking can beat a TTC bus in Liberty Village traffic

Sometimes, it truly feels like you can get from A to B in Toronto faster on foot than on the TTC, and blogTO has been putting that frustrating feeling to the test with a series of videos that have thus far featured streetcars and subway trains versus good, old-fashioned walking.

Liberty Village has proven a major traffic hotspot in the city amid ongoing construction on the Gardiner Expressway and King Street West, and gridlock has become so bad that one of our intrepid reporters felt confident that they could outpace a bus in the car-congested area by walking.

For this test, blogTO's Anton and Madison went toe-to-toe — or I guess toe-to-bus — in a race to determine if a casual walking pace can beat a TTC vehicle slogging it through Liberty Village traffic.

Our contestants started their 1.3-kilometre race along East Liberty Street at Strachan bound for Dufferin, all in brutal weekday rush hour traffic.

Can you guess who won?

@blogto Traffic in Liberty Village has been HORRENDOUS so we decided to see if it's faster to walk or take the bus!🚶‍♀️🚌 #tiktoktoronto #torontotiktok #toronto #torontotraffic #traffic #drivingintoronto #libertyvillage #libertyvillagetoronto #torontotransit #ttc #commutingintoronto #torontocommute #yyz #torontoontairo #torontocanada #gridlock #torontogridlock #fyp #foryou #foryoupage #challenge #tiktokchallenge #race ♬ original sound - blogTO

While the two were neck and neck for much of the race, including some exciting lead changes along the way, it was ultimately Madison who prevailed at a casual walking pace, arriving at the Dufferin Street finish line just ahead of Anton's bus.

However, this was actually the second such race tested for this experiment, as the pair made the exact same trek outside of peak traffic hours. The bus easily defeated walking in this lower traffic test, meaning your mileage may vary based on the time of day.
