Ontario is about to get hit with an early burst of fall weather

Even those of us who aren't yet counting down the precious few weeks left in Ontario's summer are set to get a firm and unwelcome reminder that fall is just around the corner.

On the tail of Friday's rains, humidity and flood risks, meteorologists say that the weekend will bring a premature dose of fall conditions, which will include unseasonably cold temps, not-so-summery winds and more rain in some regions.

The Weather Network is calling for the mercury to drop down to the upper teens in parts of the province, which, compared to the sunny high 20s and low 30s we've been having, will feel like an early end to the season despite us only being in the beginning of August.

"Saturday will be partly sunny with a gusty wind and a risk for a passing shower, but most of the day will be dry across southern Ontario. Temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than seasonal [but] will be even cooler to the east of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, where showers will be more numerous," the agency wrote on Friday.

"Sunday will bring a taste of early fall-like weather with a gusty northwest wind. Temperatures will remain in the upper teens across much of Cottage Country and only reach the lower 20s across the Greater Toronto Area and the Niagara region."

While it will remain dry — though partially cloudy — in the city proper, those hoping for a day out in nature or by the lake will likely want to move their plans to next weekend, as rains and chillier weather will dominate north of the GTA.

TWN assures residents, though, that even if the coming days feel "more like September than August," they don't signal the season's end just yet. Things will gradually heat up again next week, with sunny skies and higher temps after a chance of some more rain Monday.

The weather authority writes that we will be back to seasonal, though less humid conditions by the end of the week, and it is "cautiously optimistic" that these will last through the following weekend.
