eglinton crosstown lrt opening date

Here's how Metrolinx keeps Crosstown vehicles clean just in case it ever opens

A new video promoting the delay-plagued Eglinton Crosstown LRT has been met with anger and ridicule from members of the public who are tired of all the promotional fluff and just want to ride the darn thing already.

The latest in a series of "behind the scenes" hype videos — which have been received with mixed reviews — provides a glimpse at how the Crosstown's light rail vehicles, or LRVs, are kept "sparkling clean," aside from the obvious advantage of having absolutely no passengers to date.

Metrolinx's new video takes viewers inside the Eglinton Maintenance and Storage Facility, where a dedicated wash bay for LRVs helps keep the vehicles clean, something that will surely come in handy if the line ever actually opens.

While it's a cool window behind the scenes, the video is being met with anger on social media, with many claiming that Metrolinx has failed to read the room's response to these promotional clips.

Several commenters noted how keeping the trains clean is a relatively easy task, given that the line still remains shuttered with no official opening date announced, a full four years after it was initially planned to enter service.

One user wrote, "Are they sparking clean because nobody has been able to step foot on one yet? Is that why they are so clean?"

Others are frustrated that Metrolinx insists on regularly teasing the public with these videos, all as people wait for an announcement on the line's long-awaited opening.

The Eglinton Crosstown LRT is rumoured to be targeting an opening as early as next month, though the province has controversially clamped down on Metrolinx's attempts to announce an opening date.
