ttc subway closure weekend

Two subway closures will affect the TTC's busiest routes this entire weekend

Toronto commuters will have to endure yet another major transit disruption this Saturday, July 27 and Sunday, July 28, 2024, with a pair of full-weekend closures scheduled that will impact service on both the TTC's Line 1 and Line 2 subways.

The transit agency announced a full-weekend closure with no subway service between Sheppard West and St. Clair West stations on Line 1, along with a disruption on Line 2 where trains will skip Pape Station.

The larger of the two disruptions — scheduled due to planned track work — will affect seven stations on the western leg of Line 1 Yonge-University, cutting off subway service for a stretch spanning over 8.5 kilometres.

Shuttle buses will cover the route closure, and all subway stations affected by the disruption will remain open for riders to purchase and load Presto cards, or connect with surface routes.

Regular subway service is scheduled to resume by 6 a.m. on Monday, July 29.

In addition to the major closure, Line 2 Bloor-Danforth passengers will also have to contend with their own minor inconvenience when trains skip Pape Station for the duration of the weekend.

The closure is the latest related to the construction of the Ontario Line, which will feature a connection with Line 2 at Pape. This weekend, crews will be working in close proximity to the station platform, forcing trains to pass the stop until regular service resumes on Monday morning.

Looking at an additional silver lining here, if you don't have to travel to or from Pape station, your Line 2 commute may actually be faster this weekend thanks to the skipped stop.

Passengers looking to get to Line 2 from Pape are advised board shuttle buses at Pape Avenue and Danforth Avenue, which will travel eastbound to Coxwell Station and westbound to Broadview Station.

The TTC advises passengers looking to get to Pape to walk five minutes from the next closest station or to board shuttle buses that will operate both ways on Danforth Avenue between Broadview and Coxwell stations

Bus service at Pape Station will be unaffected during the closure, and the station will remain open for surface route connections.
