brampton fight

Here's the latest update about that wild sword fight caught on video in Brampton

It's not every day that you hear about a full-on sword being pulled during an altercation in your neighbourhood — let alone that you get to watch such an event unfold on video — but that's exactly what happened in a Brampton parking lot a few weeks ago when a gaggle of grown men were seen pushing, punching, kicking, and yes, drawing swords on one another.

A clip of the violent incident went viral on socials in the days following August 28, which is when the kerfuffle took place in a busy retail plaza at McLaughlin Road and Steeles Avenue West, near Sheridan College.

Those grabbing a late-night snack at Tim Hortons, Pizza Pizza or Wendy's were likely pretty shocked to see the group of a dozen or so aggressively fighting among themselves in public — but it was when the sword was drawn and actually used as a weapon when things really got weird.

After all of the online chatter about how ridiculous and frankly terrifying the giant brawl was, police have finally issued an update saying that they've apprehended one person, at least.

Peel Regional Police issued a release on Tuesday saying they arrested 25-year-old Harjot Singh from Woodstock, Ontario "in relation to an assault with a weapon incident" at that same address.

He is, ostensibly, the one who brought the sword to a fist fight — a decision he's likely regretting now.

"Violence in our community will not be tolerated. Members of the Peel Regional Police continue to work tirelessly to bring those responsible before the courts," the Deputy Chief said, adding that Singh will appear in a Brampton court on Nov. 2.

It's pretty surprising to learn that people weren't more seriously injured after watching the fairly graphic video of the tussle, but police stated at the time that though multiple people suffered injuries as a result, they were thankfully non-life threatening.
