ttc fare hike

The TTC wants to increase fares next year

Brace yourselves because in the new year, TTC fares might be a bit more expensive. According to a report that's heading in front of the TTC board on Monday, the TTC is proposing a 10-cent fare increase to help reduce its budget shortfalls.

So just how would fares go up on January 1? While adult cash fares would stay the same at $3.25, some of the proposed changes include making tokens $3 each (instead of $2.90) and pricing adult Metropasses at $146.25 (up from $141.50).

The report notes that these fare increases would generate $27 million in revenue for the TTC. And as the Toronto Star notes, if the TTC board approves this report, it would be the sixth consecutive year in which the TTC raised its prices.
