TTC's rollout of PRESTO delayed again

The TTC and delays are pretty much synonymous. So it's really no surprise that the troubled PRESTO rollout is getting pushed back.

Initially, the TTC said it was going to stop accepting Metropasses and tokens by mid-2017. However, as the Globe and Mail reports today, the these methods of payment will become obsolete to subway, bus and streetcar riders no later than the end of next year.

Apparently, as the Globe says, there are problems with the PRESTO software. But there are also indications that its adoption among riders has been slow too. This despite the fact that the TTC has made serious inroads with installation of PRESTO on buses and at subway stations.

This delay might, however, be good new for the TTC because for now, it'll help it with its budget shortfall. The Commission can now scale back funds it planned to devote to PRESTO in 2017.
