Big Festival

Bloorcourt and Bloordale Village Get a Festival of Their Own

In a sign that the stretch on Bloor between Christie and Lansdowne just might be Toronto's most recent revitalized neighbourhood, this weekend welcomes to the area the inaugural The BIG Festival.

All of us here at blogTO are thrilled to be a sponsor of this newbie festival which comes complete with the requisite buskers and live music but is perhaps more notable for its BIG Dinner Party - a chance to grab a seat at a giant table on Bloor and pig out on food from one of the many diverse restaurants in the area.

If you're not familar with this stretch on Bloor it means there will be food from some amazing local places like the Concord Cafe, La Bella Managua and Mexitaco. Brunch fave Yasi's Place will also be there, offering a live cooking demo and free community meal at 6pm.

Also on the schedule is Culture Works, a street fair for cultural institutions and organizations. Some of the well-known names that will represent include The Toronto Free Gallery (a recent transplant from Riverside), Mercer Union (which is moving into the neighbourhood), the AGO, the ROM and the Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art.

It all takes place this Saturday June 21st, from 1-9pm. More info on The BIG Festival web site.
