Your afternoon news roundup for Friday December 28th, 2007:

Workplace accidents are mostly preventable, but they sometimes still happen. For the record, no one has ever been injured or maimed while contributing to blogTO.

GO rides after 7pm, and until service ends on New Year's Eve are on the house. No word yet on which filthy rich bank or credit card has sponsored the deal.

A domestic dispute led to Toronto's 83rd and 84th homicides of 2007. The attacker left one survivor gagged and bound in a closet, who was eventually able to break free and to give his account of the terrifying, truly horrific incident. Here's hoping we see no more murders, and come no closer to the record of 89, set in 1991.

Everybody stay calm - Toronto's zoo has a fence of good height surrounding the tigers. Phew.

Air Canada is testing out a self-baggage-check system that aims to reduce the time required at check-in. I'll be flying with them soon, and I'm going to see if I can give it a try at Pearson.
