Morning Brew: March 8th, 2007

Your morning news roundup for Thursday March 8th, 2007:

The Nathan Phillips Square re-design competition ends with the winner being declared tonight. Spacing magazine has compiled a summary of predictions from some the city's top urbanites and architects.

The city approved a $1.4billion capital budget and at the same time acknowledged its debt and decay problems. Things are not looking so good for the city fiscally.

The province is going to appeal the recent decision to reinstate the Docks liquor license. The decade-long battle continues like a never-ending game of tennis stuck in deuce.

Think gas prices are going to return to "normal" now that the refinery problem is fading? Not so, according to Liberal MP Dan McTeague, who is saying that prices will continue to rise. Owners of gas guzzlers are not happy.

Health Canada is concerned that the Y2K7 bug might mess up medical devices and network systems. I guess we'll have to see what happens on March 11th.

Former NDP Premier of Ontario Bob Rae will be running for Toronto Central as a Liberal. What do Torontonians remember, and how might his floor-crossing affect his chances? Hmmm.
