Morning Brew: February 16th, 2007

Your morning news roundup for Friday February 16th, 2007:

David Suzuki met with the Mayor Miller to pitch a possible new bylaw that would require city businesses to disclose their pollution levels. A similar bylaw was proposed seven years ago but never got off the ground. The news comes as our ruling federal government hints that they will be ignoring the new Kyoto bill even though it became law this week.

The plan to create Canada's largest eco-friendly community just outside of Toronto looks like it'll be getting a green light. Seaton will be the home of 70,000 residents in homes powered by solar panels and geothermal energy, with gardens, community bike paths and an emphasis on efficient public transit access.

Who wants a paid holiday in February? I do! I do!

Is it time to do away with the penny? Apparently there are 600 pennies in circulation for every Canadian citizen, and only 40 percent of us actually use them. Round ups, and round downs to the nearest nickel should work (until the nickel becomes the next penny).
