TTC Store: Uglier than...

TTC "Transit Stuff" Store

Although I ride it often, and for the most part feel I'm getting decent value for my money, the TTC has some very serious issues. Sorry, but the barrage of TTC bashing isn't quite over yet. Why? Because we're motivated by truth and frustration!

On my way home from the CBC, I went through Union Station and caught a glimpse of the TTC "Transit Stuff" (tm) store. Much to my dismay (not that I was planning on buying any of their new, new stuff), it was already closed. I'm not going to say much about the store front and it's aesthetic weaknesses. You can see them for yourself in the above photo.

We've already heard and seen Torontonians voicing their opinions about how weak the TTC's brand marketing is. The folks at our favourite public space publication, Spacing, have made several attempts to bring this to the transit commissions attention. A few weeks back, Eye Weekly had their say. This week on Torontoist, Marc Lostracco revealed some of his own ideas and the response has been positive - from the public that is.

It's time the TTC hire someone with modern skills that can work with modern, skilled designers and brand marketers. The potential for revenue from product sales is huge. Considering how bad their image already is (we haven't forgotten the illegal strike, your clothing totally sucks, and your store couldn't be more gaudy), isn't it worth investing in something that will improve their image and contribute to revenue?

If you happen to actually like the merchandise, there is some good news - they're having a sale (and I take no responsibility for the inevitable stampede that will ensue)!
