Move It Or Lose It

Okay I swore I wouldn't use this as a forum to rant or complain, but too late. Yesterday while driving I nearly lost my mind. As I approached an intersection, the sound of sirens wailed behind me and in my rear view mirror, I caught a glimpse of two ambulances being led by a police car. Immediately I pulled off to the side, only to be nearly t-boned by a speeding car. Huh? It seems I was the only car on the road that even considered moving aside, let alone slowing down. In fact, not even the pedestrians crossing the road bothered to move (or the 'chicken' for that matter). I hate to pigeonhole an entire city, but this is not the first time I have encountered this. When did it become okay to ignore a fire truck or ambulance? Where could you possibly be going at two in the afternoon that you can't spare ten seconds?

I spent the last five years in Los Angeles where drivers are anything but courteous, but the instant they hear a siren, the streets grind to a halt as if Zack Morris froze them like his high school hallway. It's safe to say we could do the same here. Today, tomorrow or whenever, do everyone a favour and pull off to the side. Besides, if you get hit in the crossfire, you're gonna need your own ambulance ride. And then who'll stop for you?
