Shocking video shows driver fleeing police in busy Brampton parking lot

A driver was captured on video fleeing a police stop in Brampton, the latest in a series of wild events involving dangerous driving in the 905 recorded in recent months.

A video making the rounds on social media shows the driver of a modified black Jeep speed away from a police traffic stop in the parking lot of College Plaza, located at the intersection of Steeles Avenue West and McLaughlin Road in Brampton.

Police can be seen at the driver-side window of a black Jeep, with one of the officers pulling at the driver's arm in an apparent attempt to remove them from the vehicle.

A brief verbal altercation can be heard before the driver then flees the scene, speeding off through the plaza parking lot.

Commenters have been quick to point out that the Jeep — with its oversized aftermarket tires and glowing HAL 9000-style spare tire — won't be difficult for police to identify and locate.

A Peel Regional Police representative tells blogTO that they are aware of the video circulating online, but are unable to share more information about the incident at this time.

"There's nothing that we're going to be putting out publicly at this time, we are currently investigating the matter and as soon as we have something more to tell, we will be putting out a media release."

Brampton has developed a reputation as the Wild West of Greater Toronto Area driving. Every week or two, a new video emerges from the suburban city showing shockingly inept or dangerous drivers.

Even in just the last several weeks, Brampton drivers have smashed through backyards, driven directly into a swimming pool, and even managed to crash into each other in an almost deserted parking lot, Tina Belcher style.
