ttc crime random attack

Suspect in designer clothes allegedly attacked strangers with flowers in TTC station

Toronto Police are asking the public for assistance in identifying the suspect in an assault investigation after a bizarre attack at a TTC subway station last month.

Police were called to the scene at Sheppard-Yonge Subway station at approximately 4 p.m. on Friday, April 21, for reports of an assault.

A woman reportedly got into an argument with a man on one of the station's platforms and allegedly proceeded to strike him with a bouquet of flowers, in a strange reinterpretation of the pacifist “flower power” slogan used by the counterculture of the 1960s and '70s.

During the alleged floral assault, another man began to film the incident — because it's 2023, and what else would you expect of society.

The second man was then allegedly assaulted by the woman, who reportedly struck him with the bouquet and punched him in the shoulder, and is alleged to have threatened to push the man onto the tracks.

The suspect in the assault is described as in her 30s, and was seen wearing a black and green camouflage Nike jacket, a black and green Gucci bandana, a blue toque, and black oversized sunglasses. At the time of the incident, she had two green bags and a black backpack in tow.

The assault comes amid a heavily-politicized media frenzy over rising crime on the TTC, particularly incidents such as these where complete strangers are targeted.

Politicians are divided on whether a solution lies in better mental health care, increased policing, or a combination of the two, in what is proving to be a key policy debate in the upcoming mayoral by-election in June.
