509 streetcar

Full streetcar service finally returns to Queens Quay

Full streetcar service is finally set to return to Queens Quay, after over two years of construction. While the 510 Spadina returned to the street in lockstep with the launch of the new low floor streetcars, construction has only just wrapped up for the 509 route, which spans Union Station and the Ex. Service is set to resume on October 12th.

This represents the first bit of concrete news to remind us all that the complete mess on the waterfront is actually progressing towards something that promises to be a major improvement over the former makeup of the street. It's still difficult to get a sense of it while navigating Queens Quay, but Waterfront Toronto is eager to point out that construction is underway on a new section of the Martin Goodman trail and the new granite promenade, which extends sidewalk space is already being installed.

In other words, things are on the up at the Harbourfront, but it won't be until next summer that we'll get to see the finished product. For now, the commute just got a whole lot better.
