18A Heathdale Road Toronto

House of the week: 18A Heathdale Road

Heathdale Road, overlooking the Cedarvale ravine, is home to several contemporary houses of glass, wood and stone nestled among the classic bricks and Tudors. The exterior of this house at 18A isn't quite as unique as the two architecturally grand houses on this street used in the movie Chloe (the Stephen Teeple-designed Heathdale House or Drew Mandel's geometric marvel, the Ravine House). Still, this custom home has undeniable curb appeal, seemingly never-ending space, top-notch finishes and a view to die for.

The leafy neighbourhood is an excellent backdrop for this house's large windows, though you should add some curtains or blinds if you'd rather not give the street a clear shot of your living room. White walls, pot lights and marble accents on every level make the house appear a little barren, but there's plenty of space to paint and furnish and personalize. Unless you have a thing for houses that resemble icebergs--in which case, float on over.

GOOD FOR

Someone looking for a contemporary house on a tree-lined street with lots of rooms and parking spaces. This place might be tough to childproof--those plate glass stair railings and open risers have bad news written all over them--but the neighbourhood is certainly family friendly. You'll find direct access to Cedarvale Park just a few houses down.

MOVE ON IF

Although the backyard is spacious, it's begging for some landscaping, a larger deck and maybe even new fencing to capitalize on the ravine view. Move on if you aren't prepared to give the outdoor space a little TLC.
