TTC Board Dissolved

City council dissolves TTC board

Rob Ford took another one on the chin this afternoon as city council voted in favour of a motion from Karen Stintz to dissolve the TTC board in favour of a new composition that will consist of seven councillors and four citizens. Despite a Ford-supported motion from Councillor Michael Thompson to fashion a new board solely out of citizen-members, the Stintz motion passed easily 29-15, a not so subtle sign that support for the mayor on council continues to erode in 2012.

The new group of councillors to join the board will be voted on immediately (nominees are giving speeches as I write this), while the citizen appointments will be determined in October. Until the board is finalized, it'll be tough to get a sense of exactly where its political sympathies lie, but the very fact that council was so eager to relieve the current commissioners of their responsibilities means that a Ford-friendly group isn't likely.

Update (8:30 p.m.):

Here's the city council portion of the TTC board.

  • Karen Stintz (revoted as Chair)
  • Raymond Cho
  • John Parker
  • Josh Colle
  • Peter Milczyn
  • Maria Augimeri
  • Glenn De Baeremaeker

We'll have more analysis tomorrow. In the meantime, what do you think of these new baord members? Suffice to say, these group would have never let Gary Webster go were they running the show a month ago...
