What's happening in the GTA (and sometimes beyond):

Happy 175th birthday, Toronto! We love you!

In his debut as a Toronto Maple Leaf, goaltender Martin Gerber stopped 37 shots and led the Leafs to a 2-1 victory over Washington last night. Knowing the bandwagon nature of Leafs fans, they probably are going to start talking about the Stanley Cup again. Someone pinch gently smack them. Every one of them.

As the popularity and use of mobile technology continues to surge (for socializing, banking, getting news, etc.), academics in Ontario see a need for a concerted effort to put Toronto at the heart of these advances. There's a camp of people that are striving to make the Yonge and Dundas area comparable to Tokyo's Akihabara (aka the country's tech center).

And apparently it's working exactly as they marketing people hoped for. Ah crap... now I've gone and given it even more exposure. Whatever... it's not like anyone actually eats that sugary crap, right?

Ontario Progressive Conservative leader John Tory lost his by-election yesterday, and is expected to resign from his position in light of the loss.

I didn't know that Bomanville was home to the last remaining intact Nazi POW camp in the world. But it won't be for long, if historians pleas are ignored and bulldozers are permitted to knock it down as planned. Should it be saved, or should it be razed?
