Sell out crowd at Cheap Queers

In it's 10th year running, Cheap Queers once again takes the stage June 22-24th at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre.

Thinking that the Thursday night show might not be "that packed" was a big mistake. Arriving a couple minutes after the show began at 9pm, I'm greeting by the hostesses letting me know that while they're at capacity in the main theatre, I can watch the show on screen from the cabaret. It's $4.62 after all, so I pull up a stool at the bar.

Act after act took the stage, and while watching on screen, well, sucked, the hilarity of the comic acts and hosts Keith Cole and Deb 'Dirk' Pearce (hosting Genderfukt! @ Sneaky's tonight) made it worth staying for.

Come intermission, I made my way to the main area and managed to snag a spot in the back of the theatre to get some pics and see a performance by none other than The Cliks (who'll also be on the Pride South Stage at 6pm on Saturday). Performing a handful of songs, these gals rocked the crowd -- which notably, was not necessarily filled with rockers -- and even had the cute (and oh-so flamey) boys beside me rockin' out.

Other acts like Andrew Kushnir and Dawn Whitwell had the crowd in absolute stitches. So much so, that there was a definite mass exodus to the washrooms when the show wrapped (sure sign of a good comic's act).

Tonight, the show is on again (with a whole new list of performers) at 9pm... so get down there, and learn from this post -- GET THERE EARLY. Hosting duties by Sonja Mills & David Ramsden.
